It’s no surprise that Mark Ronson has had his hand in numerous songs that have been placed in television & film. From Nip/Tuck to The Hills to Entourage and many others, his music has popped up on many screens over the years. Not to mention, it seems like his massive 2017 hit “Uptown Funk” with Bruno Mars is still everywhere you look.
So what equipment does he use to power his unique sound that has garnered so much success? Let’s take a look.
Digital Audio Workstation (DAW)
In a 2011 interview, Mark Ronson revealed that he had his first recording experiences with Avid’s Pro Tools (originally developed by Digidesign). Pro Tools is still widely regarded as the industry standard today despite a more diluted marketplace with other favorites like Logic, Ableton Live, or FL Studio, or Cubase.

Digidesign Pro Control
In the aforementioned 2011 article, Ronson also explained that he pairs Pro Tools with the Digidesign Pro Control hardware.
MPC 3000
In 2014 Ronson gave a Ted Talk on how sampling transformed music. He can be seen in the video playing on his customized version of the legendary MPC 3000. “The beats all come from the MPC, and then depending on what I think the song should start with — a keyboard, the guitar, a bass line — that determines what I should put on top,” he explains. “I just find a beat that I like on the MPC and then lay it into Pro Tools and then just add all the live instrumentation on top of that.”
