If you’ve read my book, you know that it is completely possible to automate your efforts in finding out what project(s) a music supervisor is working on. You also know how to use this information to understand the optimal time to pitch them your music. The list of website change detection tools below are my recommendations for you to get started with.
Visualping
Wow! Visualping is exactly what I was looking for when I started looking for a tool to alert me when a music supervisor was working on a new project and monitoring the stages its development. With its simple (and free) setup and design, all you need to do it enter the page you’re looking to detect changes on and setup an alert. You can have them come hourly, daily, weekly or monthly. I really love the way this tool monitors changes visually with before and after screenshots making it extremely easy to use.
ChangeTower
Another amazing website change detection tool, ChangeTower also gives you the ability to detect visual changes and adds in functionality like the ability to export changes over a longer period of time (3 months for free) to an excel sheet. While its free version only allows you to monitor 3 sites for free, its paid options start at just $9/month.
Versionista
Versionista is another fantastic tool that you can add to your workflow in discovering and keeping track of what projects a music supervisor may be working on currently. They provide really detailed email summaries in their alerts and have some advanced filtering options to really let you pinpoint what you are looking to monitor. This tool was even used by the New York Times in a study that discovered the Trump administration had systematically removed, altered or played down references to climate change on federal websites.
Conclusion
Whether you’re using Visualping, ChangeTower, or Versionista you are now fully equipped with the power to find and keep track of what project that music supervisor is currently working on. Automating this process allows you to spend more of your valuable time doing what you love: making high quality music suitable for the big screen!
